SIR JOSEPH WARD.
PUBLIC WELCOME IN WEL. LINGTON. I?EE PUESS ASSOCIATION, Wellington, August 2. Sir Jojeph Ward attended a reception given by the citizens in his honor at. the Tom Hall to-night. Thore was an immense attendance, the great hall being crowded in all parts. There was considerably over three thousand present, and they gavo Sir Joseph and Lady Ward a warm welcome, Sir Joseph receiving quite an ovation on entering the hall, and later on when rising to sp;>ak. The Mayor of Wellington, the Hon, T. W. Hislop, welcomed Sir Joseph back to the city, saying that on behalf of all parties ho wished him success, for in his triumphs ho had shown no undue i elation and in his adversities ho had j neyer shown any unnerving fear. Sir Joseph's speech, with the exception of that part which referred to the task before him, was practically non-poli-j tical, and bi'oko no new ground. He ! paid a tribute to Mr Suddoii's great labours, and commended Mr HailJones for hi-i con.lu.jt dumij the last fe,v weeks. The sneojhos made by the Mayor and by Sir Joseph were fro.[tiontly ap,ila'iled, aud tho proceedings were of a very cordial character,
