A meeting of shipowners and others interested, called to discuss the restrio. lions on the coastal fleet, was held ton'fiut, but was swamped by a large attendance of seamen, who captured tile meeting. The following motion was pro, posed by the secretary oE tlio Seamen's Union : "That in yiow of the recent numerous shipping disasters with grift loss of life on our coasts, this meeting strongly urges the Uovernment to amend the Shipping Act on the lines of the Imperial Act, so that all vessels shall have a wiutor and a summer load liue, and shall carry no deckcargoea during the months of May, June, July August and September; and further resolves that (a) a qualified marina architect should be appointed by the Government to approve of all plans f or vessels built in this colony, (b) a strict supervision should bo exercised on the provisioning of vessels sailing from our ports, (c) the recommendations of the Nautical Court of Inquiry and the rid. er of the Supreme Court jury dealing with the Clayraorc-Kapanui disaster should be given effect to," An amendment to adjourn the meeting haying been lost, the owners withdrew from the meeting. The above motion was then carried, —-
