HIGH COMMISSIONER'S ADVICE. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, July 30. Tho Department of Industries and Commerce has rccciyed tho following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, July 28th : Mutton: The market is dull. Trade iu all classes is very slack, and prices are barely maintained. The average price for light-weight Canterbury brands is 3IJd; heavy-weights 3|d. Best quality North Island mutton is quoted at 3Jd, while second class quality is soiling at 3JdLamb: Tho niarkot is steady and likely to remain so. There is a good demand for all brands. Tho ayerago price of Canterbury lamb is 6d ; othor than Canterbury 1 Jd. Beef: There is a better demaud for beef. Supplies of American chilled beef are small. Hind-quarters aro quoted at 3.|d; fore-quarters 2.H. Butter: The market is firm and prices continue to advance. Prospects lor next season's market are more favorable than last year. Only a small supply of tho best quality is on hand. Choice New 2oaland brands are to-day worth IOSs per cwt. Cheese : Tho market is steady with a very good demand. White makes aro selling at (its, and colored at GOs per cwt. Hemp : The niarkot, is not quite so firm. Large buyers have withdrawn from the market, and prices have consequently declined. Wellington on spot, is quoted at LSI 10s, and Octobcr-Dsccmber shipments at L3t per ton. Fair current Manilla, on spot, is selling at Lt3 per ton. Cocksfoot Seed: Tho market is dull and buyers are not keen to do business The average price for 171b, bright' [clean, dressed seed is -Mis per cwt. ' Wool: The market is quiet with no alterations in prices. ~
