MANAWATLI DEFEAT WELLINGTON. V PBS PRESS ASjOCUTIOS CnaiHTCfirßcn, July 28. Manawatu defeated Wellington today by four goals to two. The ground was in a very soft condition, but the game, nevertheless, was fast, and at times exciting The home team was undoubtedly the superior combination, and was on the aggressive inoat of the time. Their half-back line gave a pariiculanly fine display, completely do moralising the Wellington forwards A meeting of the Taraoaki Hockey Association was held on Saturday night, to consider the question of cancelling the southern tour, owing to the inability of A'C'ourt and Whitaker (Hawera players) to obtaiu the neees■ary leave. It was decided not to cancel the tour, Messrs McCallum and Jordan (Carrington Koad) having intimated their willingness to fill the ▼acannea. Tbe team leaves to-morrow morning, and plays Manawaiu at Palmeraton North on Wednesday, Wellington on Saturday, and Wangatax on the following Thursday.
