FOOTBALL.

In the junior representative team, picked on Thursday, the Eltham Club, notwithstanding that the) hold almost a mortgage over the junior premiership of the southern division, and would naturally be supposed to possess some first-clas; talent, has not had a single rcpie seutative chosen. This is not tin ' tirst occasion that the Eltham CluL nas had serious cause for complaint against their treatment by the Rug oy Union. Commenting on tin. team, the Hawera "Star' says:— Considerable surprise has been expressed in the district that McNab, of Eltham, has not been included ir. the junior rep. team. He is a real ly good man and was well worth a place. Complaints have been made that justice was not done to the Eltham team in the selection of tin South team, and probably there arc good grounds fur the grievance, li is reported that at tlie last meeting of the L'nion the southern memberwere asked to select this team. The.* all demurred, as they had not devoted the attention which was necessary to enable them to do so. Messrs Guy and Shields definitely refused, and finally Mr Wilson reluctanth agreed. As a matter of fact, h<_ had seen all the teams play excepi Eltham, and the information he re ceived about them was that the for wards were a splendid even lot, hui that McNab was a "clinker." On tbe strength of this McNab was included in the southern combination. The junior reps, are worthy of more attention, and it is to be hoped that the L'nion will next year appoint a man early in the season to watch the juniors and afford a chance of doing justice to tbe men playing.

The representative match, Tatanaki versus Otago, is to be played at Dunedin this afternoon. More interest is being taken in the gam;; than in any other fixture in the tour. We have made arrangements to haw a complete report telegraphed through.
