Edg'ir Turner was charged at the Police Court this afternoon with having on Mireii Ist, at Duncdin, forced the n unc of Brown to a telegram add*essed to Brnirn and Ciates of Sydney, requesting them to cable, the sum of £ls, with intent to defraud Brown and Cjates. Accused, who had been a eomincrcial traveller for an American firm of bookmakers, who afterwards appointed Brown nud Coutos as agent, met Mr Brown in Bunedin, and saying Ue was hard up, sought io borrow £l, He then, it is alleged, sent a cable to Sydney to send £ls to Brown at the Criterion Hotel, and on the cable arriving is alleged to have received the money, Acotised was committed for trial, bail being granted at £l5O, and two sureties of £75 each.
