Mirfiu, editor and proprietor o £ the "Inangahua Herald," was charged on five informations by the Railway Department, with making false declarations re reporters' tickets. The evidence showed that reporters' tickets were issued to his daughter working in accused's oflk-;, to his son-in-law and a domestic servant to attend a Supreme Court trial at Hokitika, and other occasions, atone quarter ordinary rates. Defendant stated he had signed the declarations carelessly, not asking any questions. The Bench fined him £2 -and costs on each information, totalling £2l odd. His son-in-law was fined 20s and costs £'l for transferring a ticket, and the transferee was lined 10s and costs £3 16s for using same.
