WELL.KNOWN UE3IDENT AMIESTED. PEU PRESS AS9OCIATIO.V. Palmerstox North, July 27. A sensational development in the recent bomb outrage at Messrs J. Nathan and Oo.'s dried milk factory at Bunnythorpe took place late last night when a middle-aged man, John Jarvis Gillies, was arrested on the charge of being the perpetrator. The arrest was made soon after nine o'clock, the accused being then a t his house al Bunny .liorpb only a quarter of a mile from the dried-milk factory. He is a widower, has relatives living at Bunnyhorpe, and is the proprii or of a dairy factory in the township. At one time he had charge of the Dairy Union creamery here.
Gilhes is a well-known and highly, respected resident, and has lived in Bunnythorpe fur many years. The wrest has created qu,te a sensation among the residents m the locality Gilles manutactured butter for export and had been a very successful ex' hibitor in the butter classes at the Palmerston Winter Show. He was charged at the Pohce Court this mornmg with causing an explosion at the fac tory whereby £2sf] worth of machinery was destroyed, and was remanded on the application of the police fo/ eight days.
Despite strenuous opposition from the police, who allege that the course of justice would be seriously hampered bail was allowed m self £2OO, and two approved securites of £2OO each.
