Col. Hume is at present in New Plymouth, and is staying at the Criterion Hotel.
.•Captain Young, M.H.C.V.S., Government Veterinarian for Taranab, has been elected a life member of the Taranaki Agricultural Society, in recognition of his valuable services.
The names of Messrs J. Hunter, MA., W. Muuro, E. Bary, and W Boyce have been submitted by the Taranaki Education Board for the position of first assistant at the S( ratford District High School. In accepting the resignation of Mr French, teacher at the Waiongona school, the Education Board passed a resolution appreciating his services during the time he has been in the Board's employment. Mr Pettit, proprietor of the " Kawhia Settler," was in New Plymouth on Wednesday. He was unfortunate enough a few days ago to collide with a Maori in a football match, and his eye was badly damaged by the impact. It was iu order to obtain medical aid that he visited New Plymouth, leaving again for the north the same afternoon. The many friends of Mr it. Mclayish, late of Eltham, and now in business at Taihapr, will learn with regret that he i» at present rather seriously ill. lie has recently suH'ercd from soiiie bone trouble in one of his ankles, and is in danger of losing the limb.
