THE TECHNICAL SCHOOL.

LAYING THE FOUNDATION STONE TO-DAY.

The Cha'rman, Mr James Wade, reported at last night's meeting o£ the Taranaki Education Board, that the Hon the Premier had notified that owing to pressure of other business he was unable to accept the Board's invitation to lay the foundation stone of the New Plymouth Technical School. After taking into consideration tho financial position and other matters in connec. tion with the school, he did not think it advisable to incur any unnecessary expenso over the ceremony. Howover, as the stone had been prepared, and some arrangements made, he advised that tho stone should bo laid at 2 p.in on Wednesday, the 25th July trusting that the Board would be able to adjourn for a -short time for the purpose. "At tho same time," saul Mr Wade, " I will esteem it a favour if the Board will allow me the honour to propose that Mr Henry Faull bo asked toperform the ceremony, as a mark of the Board's appreciation of his long and faithful service as a continuous member ever since the Board was formed."

Mr Faull preferred that the honour should bo given to the Chairman, who, with the Secretary, had to bear the brunt of tho office work. He moved that the Chairman perform the ceremony.

Mrs Dougherty seconded, and said that as the Chairman had much to do, he should get this pleasing function as a sort of compensation, Mr Faull's parly wore out-geuorailcd, amidst much amusement, and during an aside-discussion, the Chairman's l'ecommendation was adopted. r "he w'tole of the arrangements were 'eft in t';,; hands of the Chairman, who will invite the Mayor of New Plymouth, the Chairman and members of the New Plymou'h High School Board aud New Plymouth State School Committco.

The stono will, accordingly, bo laid at 2 p m. this afternoon, and the public arc invited to attend.

The matter of a suitable coi'oinony at the tuuo of tho opening will be discussed at a later stago,
