A LONELY IMMIGRANT.
ATTEMPTS TO TAKE HIS LIFIC. l'lill PIIESS ASSOCIATION. Auckland, July 2a. 0110 of llic recent arrivals from the Old Country by the Devon was found lying under 11 bush near the I'ousonby road, sutfering from 11 wide wound in his throat, and a small penknife was lying beside him. Boys immediately communicated with Constable Dunn at Ponsonby police station, who was near, and upon going to the spot lie found the man with a wound some nine inches long in liis throat and 0 small cut on the wrist. The man was taken to the Hospital, but refused to say anything about himself whatever. Investigation, however, disclosed that lie was one of the Devon's immigrants named William Dibbs, a single man of about 25 years of age, Dibbs appears to have become yery despondent since he arrived, owing to being alone out here without any friends. He is described as a grocer's assistant, Tiic wounds are uot dangerous.
