THE EXHIBITION CONDUCTORSHIP.
TO IHK JBWTOB. Sib,—The appointment of musical conductor to the Exhibition has evidcutly creatod a subject for discussion by both the musical and unmusical portion of the community. The Musioal Committee had power to recommend a conductor to the Minister in charge of Exhibition affairs, without making any appointment j therefore there could be no cancellation, and the Minister, in the best interests, I consider, of both music and the colony, appointed Mr Alfred Hill, who pursues his profession in the colony, and has been the means, through his musical works, of not only adyerfisjng Maqriland, but also his oqpab,ihiios as i( mwiaii, while Mr Orchard considered it advisable, for his own ends, to leave the colony some time ago. The seemingly childish protest which Mr Orchard has made through the Sydney Liedertafel only confirms the opinion that the Govornment has made a correct decision.— I am, etc, Cbotchm,
