TARANAKI WOOL, SHEEPSKIN, HIDE AND T4LLOW SALES. NEWTON KING'S REPORT. On Tuesday, 17th inst., I held my usual four weekly sale at my Stratford Haymarket premises. The catalogue comprised 1,925 hides and yearling skins, 1,288 sheepskins, 15 bales 46 bags wool, 18 casks 6 tins talloir, and a considerable quantity of horse-hair, dry bones, cowtails, and rough fat.
The advent of a Wellington buyer was a decided acquisition to the sale, and the fact that Taranaki can support one good sale is now established beyond dispute. Although the extreme prices ruling at the last sale were not maintained, full current yalue were realised throughout the sales.
I quote: Hides: ox, no heavy offering, stout 27l to 30s, medium 23s to 265, cow, heavy 26s to 28s, medium 21s to 255, light and inferior 18s to 21s, yearlings 8s to 10s, calves 2s to 4s 6d, slippy and cut 12s 6d to 20s. Sheepskins: Dry butchers np to 9}d per lb, salted 9s 6d to 7s, damp and green tis 3d to 7s 3d each; wool, mostly crutchings and inferior fleece, crutch' ings 6H to 8d ; locks 3jd to 5d ; fleece' 8d to 9d. • Tallow in casks, 20s 6d to 22s 3d for fair to good mixed; in tins, 12s 6d to 14s per cwt. Horse hair lOd to Is 6d per lb. Dry, bones 4s per cwt,
Consignments were again late in arriving, and the difficulty of handling so large a catalogue of produce was thus considerably increased, and I trust clients will endeavour to forward earlier, if possible. The sale is now becoming well-known among outside buyers, and although prices will, no doubt' fluctuate, it is now safe to rely on the produce submitted meeting full competition. My next sale will be held on August 14th. Consignments should arrive not later than the Thursday previous.
