THE RAHOTU NURSERIES.

On one of the roughest davs of last week, a Nk.vs representative found the full value of shelter trees. Exposed as llalmlu was al that time to the full force of (he gale, there was a haven of peace behind the l'ines and eleagnus that surround Mr (iroom's well-known Rahotu Nurseries. Within that wall nf shelter it was ~" „I|, to imagine that a gale was howling without, but quite easv to believe that stock would relish such a warm, cosy spot. That same evening, Captain Young, the (Government A'eterinarian, told the Rahntii farmers something of the valre of shelter trees, and that the provision of these was absuliitcly imperative if the Taranaki agriculturists wished to keep in line with those of other parls, He did not tell them where to buy the trees, but that will be seen by reference to Mr J. B, Groom's advertisement jisiflwre.

The grounds are prettily laid out,, winding paths and narrow foot bridges over running streams diversifying the well-ordered wilderness. The maidenhair fern house is a place to which many of our lady readers would like free access for a few minutes, beautiful specimens in all directions throwing out their delicate fronds. Everywhere are ornamental, shelter, and fruit trees. There are healthy eleajjnus plants by thousands and tens of thousands ready for market, and hedgerows show what sort of stuff it is. Messrs Groom Bros, do the whole of the work themselves, and deserve the greatest credit for the manner in which they have transformed the rough piece of country into up-to-date nurseries and ornamental grounds.
