TARANAKI LAND BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Tarainaki Crown Land Board was held at New Plymonth on Tuesday Present: The Commissioner (Mr P. Simpson) and Messrs flislop, Connett, and Rattenbury.

J, A. Wildormoth appealed against the forfeiture of Sections 7 and 69, Block 13, Pouatn, and asked that the transfer to J. E. Anderson be granted. —The resolution of forfeiture '"*&*■ rescinded, and the transfer was ap»proved upon certain conditions. James Boddie applied to subdivide Section 16, Bloek 12, Ngairo, and transfer Sub. 1, containing 3 roods, to the Eltham Co-operative Dairy Faetory Company, Limited.

W. C. and G. Hutohens applied to divide their holding and transfer Sections. 5, Block 13, Mimi, to Ellen, Hutohens, and Section 8, to G. QENEBAI. J. B. Hlne and W, ]£, Jones applied to convert the tenure of Seotions lq, Block 6, 33, Blook 9, and 17, Block 10, Ngatimaru, to freehold.— Approved. The Crown Lands ranger reported on the inspection of 43 holdings comprising 11,999 acres; improvements required £9,570 ; effected £18,253. Six settlers are non-resident and on* is deficient in improvements and nonresident.—Action to be taken against those who have not complied with th j conditions. The BOUtheM portion of Section 17, Block 6, Pouatu township reserve, is to be set aside as a reserve for travelling stook. Several mortgage applications were approved and endorsed. The ranger reported on the application of the Makahu Dairy Factory Cq. to take timber from thp Makahu Township Reserve for firewood; and, an appllaation was made by S. Martin for a lease of the land.—The land being the qnly land with forest upon it in the locality/the Board regretted it could not accede to the application. A reduction of rent was granted to D. B. Ferguison for the cleared portion ofS.G. ruufi. E. Hill applied for a new lease it Section 87, Block 14, Pouatu, A declaration of loss was submitted by the mortgagee in whose custody the lease was. Agreed to, upon payment of one guinea. Tne following local bodies submitted proposals for expenditure of accrued thirds and fourths i Okato Boad Board £34 17s 6d, Egmont County Counsil £1 6s lid, Patea W. Boad Board £3 16s 6d.—Approved. Messrs Malouo, MoVeagh and Anderson, on behalf of 8. D. Pope, applied for a re-hearing of tho forfeiture in the interests of the mortgagees, and stated that they were endeavoring todispose of the property to some one who will reside on it.—Three months' extension of tjme was allowed in which to dispose of the property, upon the understanding that this is final. W. Olson offered £1 per annum for a lease of Sections 162 to 183, Egmont Village.—A yearly tenancy is to be granted on payment of the rent offered, provided blackberries are cleared off

the land A. Barlow offered £\ 5s ! per annum for a lease of Sections 3 and 32, Black 1, old Pihaiua Village. A yearly lease will be granted.

T. B. Waters applied for a lease of the grazing on parUSeetion 3a, B. 4, Mimi. —Left in the hands of the Commissioner with power to act. W. 0. and G. Hutchens applied for the grilling on part-Sections 13 and 14, Block 13, Mimi, until the sections are taken up.—Monthly tenancy granted at 7s 6d per month. D. Knight applied for Seotion 9, Block 5, Aria, under Sec tion 114 of "The Land Act, 1592." The Board oould not accede to the application, in view of the great demand at the present time for land. The Under Secretary for Crown Lands wrote with reference to residence by applicants for, or transferaes of, lands mortgaged to the Advances to Settlers office, and piyraent by applicants of the valuation for improvement on forfeited sections like, wise mortgaged to the Government.— Acknowledged.

.The ranger reported on the application of J. T. Darkla for from residence on Section 6, Block 13, Omona.—ln the exceptional circumstances, residence on this section was not insisted upon, The following cases of non .compliance with improvement conditions were considered; H. MeLeod, Sermon 5, Block 5, Aria, now felling bush.— Six months' extension en-anted. S. E Meredith, Sections 1, 2, and |, Ijlock 2. Ohura, contract for felling nearly completed. Three months granted. J. McClnre, Sections 7 and 10, Block 2, Aria. Forfeited. A. Lindsay, Section 8, Blook M, Aria. Forfeited. The following applied for their interests to bo forfeited: L. M, Hatchins, Sections 5, Block isi, Waro; J. A, MoEldowney, Sections' 5, Block 1, Mini; A. Biker, Section 1, Block 3, Mahoe; G. H. and J. Clark, Seotion 7, Block 16, Omona! Agreed to. Geo. Black applied for extension of time to enable him to fell bush to build and reside on Section 2, Block 12, Aria, owing to illness having prevented him. Six months' extension granted.

Win. Heath applied for extension of time to reside on Section 5, Block 15, Aria, owing to difficulty in getting timber on to the land.—Six months' extension of time granted. A. W. Wood waited on the Board with reference to his application for some of the land at the back of Sections 12 and 13, Block 3, Omona.—Tho Commissioner reported that ho wa» now having a suryey made of the proposed sub-ojivision of th? land, <ind his action was approved, J. A, Cookerton interviewed the. Board requesting permission to transfer Section 2, Block 9. Hawera, Tokaora settlement, for a good-will at a stated sum per acre.
