ME. SEDDON ELECTED. A LARGE MAJORITY. TER PEBSS ASSOCIATION', Hokitika, July 13. The election resulted:— Michel 1634 Seddon 2281 Majority for Mr Beddon, 017, There are seven mull returns still to come,
Both candidates addressed a larg«\ assemblage in front of the Supreme Court, where the returns were being shown by limelight. Mr Seddon expressed his great and grateful thanks for the Bupport ao< corded him, and expressed pleasure at the manner in whioh the contest had been conducted. The candidate oon« eluded by calling for thfee cheers far his opponent, Mr Michel thanked his Bupportera and announced his intention of contesting the scat again at tho first oppor* tumty, when he felt sure that long service would be first and sympathy second.
Great cheering greeted both candidates, who were carried shoulder high. Mr Seddon will remain on the Coast for some little time, and will visit localities where he had been unable to risit in the short timo of thg campaign. He is receiving a large number of «on* gratulatory messages.
Much interest was evinced in the election locally, downs of telephonic inquiries being received at this office up till midnight. The first intimation received by us was •,—Twenty-five returns, Michel 1155, Seddon 1302. hittt messages; 29 returns, Michel 1288, Seddon 1635.- 35 returns: Michel 1483, Seddon 2109. 39 returns! I Michel 1600, Seddon 2228.
