PETROLEUM.
OIL WELL lIVINEB. An article recently i übhshed in the of Truth," says: "A boy about thirteen yoars of age, who is employed with las father mining coal at Williamsburg, has developed the peculiar power of succesHfully locating oil wells. He has already made several local ions for the United Oil Coy., and every instance where ho has driven a a stake, locating a well, and where a holo was drilled, a good fbw of petroleum was eut lie his thus enhanced the value of the Williamsburg field. Tht) United people drilled «ev.Tal holes some time ago, and not (in ling oil, abandoned the territory. Through this boy's marvellous powers, a uumber of producers have since been opened. While playing with his broncho on the prairie the boy felt a peculiar tingling sensation in his hauls. The stronger the effort he made to leave the spot the more vivid was the tingling in his fi.iger tips While under a spell of this kind one day. several months ago, Gen Wallace, of the United Coy. who was out with a crowd of oil well developers, asked the boy what seemed to trouble him, and the youth told him of the strange feeling he had in his fingers, and said he knew there was oil where he was standing. A hole was drilled, and one of the best producers in the field was opened up. Three more wells have been located, three drilled, and three good producers added to the list. The wells the boy located were in close, proximity to the several dry holes the company had put down previously." That lad could make his fortune in the Taranaki province in a few weeks. The following extract from a Utter from Mr J. J. Craig, of Auckland, who secured so many of the Moturoa Coy's, preferential shares, should prove of interest at the present time s—" I telegraphed you net to sell anv moro oil shares, as I have just received > the analysis (pr ints) and samples of whal the petroleum will produce, yiz., kero sone, benzine, several classes of lubricating oil, paraffin wax, pitch, and several other materials. These are all refined, and of splendid quality. The analysis is excellent, and could not be better, and the only thing now wanted is an unlimited supply of oil in the bores. I have sent the. samples to Frater Bros, to show investors what it will produce." •
