In the Assembly, Mr Crick gave notice of a motion for to-morrow condemnatory of the Speaker having him remored from the House. He explained he occupied a honorary position on the Board of the paper, which was unfortunate and ill-managed from the start. When it failed, he and three others were technically convicted of conspiring to defraud, but the conviction was quashed. His own savings went in the smash, and from the beginning to the end he neTer got a farthing out of the venture. Mr Norton's other charges were of writing leaders to Cootamundra papers against Norton, accepting bribes from brewers, and corruption, all which he warmiy denied and invited the fullest inquiry. He dramatically concluded by accepting John Norton's challenge to resign and contest the Cootamundra seat with him. John Norton, at the time of making his challenge, handed his resignation to another member. Both resignations were handed to the Speaker, and the seats were subsequently declared Tacant.
