LABOR DISPUTES.
BYDITEY TRAMWAY TROUBLE. Stdsey, July 5. The Railway Commissioners have promised the fullest enquiry into the 1 tramway men's grievances. Last 1 night's meeting of the Tram Employees' Union endorsed the action of the Executive, and pledged its support. It granted ten shillings a day to Lawton until his cue is settled. It was alio decided to petition Parliament to allow Lawton to appear at the Bar of the House with reference to the men's grievances, and in support of a Commission of Inquiry. One speaker said the men did not want to take eitreme measures, but if the public did not help them in getting a full inquiry they would have to use what power they had at their command. If they did that it would not be a repetition of the Victorian railway strike. (The Sydney tramway service is under the control of the State railway department and the men are, therefore, Government employees.) NO NEW DEVELOPMENTS. Received 6,1.5 a.m. Sydkby, July 5. A meeting of the men employed on the night trams endorsed the resolutions adopted at last night's meeting. Otherwise there are no new developments. THE TOBACCO WORKERS' STRIKE. Received 6,1.5 a.m. Sydney, July 5. The tobacco strike comtinues. At a conference between the strikers and the management, the latter refused to discharge the girls, and the strikers declined to resume work if they were| retained. A meeting of the Tobacco Employees' Union to-morrow considers the situation. Meantime the Tobacco Company state there u plenty of labor offering to supply the places of the strikers.
