fiOTAL COMMISSION'S REFOKT WHITE LABOE TO BE SOUGHT. BeceiYed 4,12.3 a.m. Bbisbane, July 3. The report of the Eoyal Commission upon the deportation and repatriation of Kanakas, and the sufficiency of labor for the Queensland sugar industry, covers 14,000 questions and answers, and a number of appendices. The recommendations include, that Resident Commissioners at the various Groups acquaint the Chiefs that the islanders may shortly be returned in Urge numbers, so that increased food supplies may be provided; that Islanders be landed where safe from personal injury, and that exemption from deportation be allowed in certain cases where it would inflict severe hardship and injustice. The Commission recommends that two thousand Islanders be repatriated in January next, and thereafter five hundred monthly. Dealing with the question of the future supply of labor, the Commission recommends the establishment of a labor intelligence bureau, that Crown lands be made available for small holdings for the occupation of workers of limited means, that during the next six months, efforts be made to ascertain the number of unemployed in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria ind bring under their notice the nature of the employment, and if a sufficient supply of labor is not obtainable in this manner, information be disseminated throughout the United Kingdom and Europe regarding the sugar industry »nd facilities for land settlement, »ith a view to attracting immigrants All three Coommissioners signed the report, but Commissioner Paget adds a rider recommending that the Kanakas be allowed to continue to work until mch time as transport facilities can be ifforded. The report states that in April last, ■here were 5,280 Islanders liable to leportation, and the deportations pf he next six months will probably re. luce the number to four thousand.
