Mr Lawry was thankful that it had fallen to his lot to move the election of Mr Guinness, who had won golden opinions from all sides, and had dislingaished himself by his affability to all, and especially by the care and attention he invariably paid to the younger members, Mr Buddo seconded, detailing the many servioes performed by Mr Gumness, and hoping that the House would come to an unanimous decision. This the House did at once. Mr Guinness, in returning thanks for his election to the high office of Speaker, declared his readiness to be always vigilant and just to all, even without fear, favour, or friendship, to maintain always the traditions of tho House, and hold the b ilance evenU between thejparties. He reminded the House that without the Support of its members, the Speaker is nocessarily powerless, and concluded bv submitting himself to the judgment of the House. Taking the chair, Mr Speaker again thanked the House for his election, and repeated the pledges he hai given on the floor of the House.

The Hon. W. Hall-Jones congratu-1 latcd Mr Speaker heartily. He sketched briefly hin career, and ass'ured him of the continued confidence of the House.

The leader of the Opposition, Mr Massey, followed in the same strain, adding that Mr Speaker, under all possible oireumstances, could depend on the support of members of both sides of the House in his endeavours to uphold the dignity of Parliament, Mr Speaker briefly thanked the last speakers, The House adjourned at 3.20.
