STRATFORD NOTES.
(Prom Our Own Correspondent). Mr Chas. Penn (Clerk of Stratford County Council) has left on a holiday visit to Australia. Messrs J. McCluggage and H. Irvine left on Saturday for a three months holiday trip to Queensland. Mr E. P. Hemmingway (Cleric of Borough Council) is the council's delegate to the Municipal Conference to bo held in Wellington next month. His Worship the Mayor returned Erom Wellington ou Saturday ni^ht. A serious accident occurred in Regan streot ou Saturday afternoon to Miss Ivy Clayton, daughter of the late proprietoi nf the Daily News. It appe.irs that Miss Clayton (who is an accomplished horsesroman) was riding a horse that hud had a lengthened spell and was very restive. When
opposite the Presbyterian Church, the animal reared, and fell right over on it 3 rider. Assistance was immediately obtained, and Dr. Carbery was quickly on the scene. Miss Clayton was removed to her home. Dr. Paget was called in, and aftor examination it was found that Miss Clayton had sustained serious injuries. The assistanoe of Dr. Wylie (of New Plymouth) was also obtained, and an operation was performed by the three medical men, The patient had been terribly crushed and otherwise injured internally, andtho 1 pelvis was found to have been fraci tured, The injuries are of such a , nature that the medical men hold out , little hope of her recovery. This afternoon her condition was. a little better, ( The Oddfellows and Foresters held' I a memorial service in Holy Trinity Church yesterday, A number of visit- " ing Oddfellows from Eltham helped to swell the number. The looal band j headed the prooession to and from the church,
