Trivialities such as the " Belief of Mafeking " or the Welsh defeat of the "All Blacks" reached Urenui as quickly as most places; but when a national calamity (the news of the death of the late Mr Seddon) occnrs, we obtain our first information per casual visitor instead of per Post Office authority. Thethiid annual cribbage tournament, Onaero v. Urenui, is now in progress, Each side has one win to its credit. This year's games are consequently causing considerable interest. At a general meeting of the Hide Club, held on Saturday evening, it was decided to hold the first annual ball on August 2nd. McKinnon Bain's orchestra is to be engaged and as fancy dress has been made optional no doubt a large gathering will be presont. On Thursday (28th) a triangular match (Guards, Mangorei, Urenui) will be fired at the New Plymouth range. With a representative toam I fully expect our fellows to keep up their end.
