FOOTBALL.

All Association football matches ar- J ranged for to-dav have been postponed until the following Thursday on account of the late Premier. Mr John M'Goldrick who returned to Wellington last week from a tour round the world, relates an amusing incident during the Welsh-Irish international football contest. He states: "Possibly I was the only New Zealander on the ground. The Welsh team were accompanied by 1,500 barrackcrs, and during the match chanted some very fine tunes. The Irish, however, contrary to expccta-

tions, upset all calculations by playing a very brilliant game, and although at the finish they were minus two men in never left the result in doubt. The Green supporters were beyond themselves with excitement, and after a great forw rd rush Erin's supporters cheered wildly. When the noise subsided the Welsh contingont of I..JK) arose, and, as if spoken through a monster phonograph, cried out: " Who beat the New Zealanders ?" The thousands of jubilant Irishmen, equal to the occasion, responded with a tcrrifb yell: 'The referee!' Taffy was silenced."

The Welsh Bwgby Union have arranged fixtures with the South African team for Cardiff, Newport, and Llanellv Clubs, Glamorgan and Monmouth counties, and an International with Wales, most pr..bably taking place at Swansea. Messrs Schofield and Llewellyn were appointed a sub-com-mittee to arrange dates. Permission has been given to the Cardiff Club to present mementoes to their players in recognition of their services during the past season, but such mementoes must not exceed the value of 2gs.
