HAWKE'S BAY ANTICIPATIONS.

The Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's Winter Meeting commences to-day, and although a considerable number of horses have been withdrawn, fair fields still remain to contest each event, witli the exception of the first, in which four contestants only are set down to take part. The following are suggested as likely to fill the places (12.15) June Steeplechase, about 25 miles. Sleepwell or South Star.

Hunmoana, who is engaged in the Ladies' Bracelet at the flawke's Bay meeting, is a full brother to Oingo, and was recently purchased by Mr E J. Walt.
B. Daeley (the well known horseman), is now employed by Mr Watt, and will probably ride that owner's horses in their different engagements at the forthcoming meeting.
Tonderghie has been purchased by Mr Albert Tucker, of Wanganui, who i intends giving the Daynt gelding a trial over the hurdles.
Subscription lists for the widow and children of the late tiampel jPergus (who met with a fatal accident at the recent Northern meeting) have been opened in various towns; throughout New Zealand, arid a good response has been received, £-10 being collected on the last day of the Ellerslie meeting.
