London, Jon* 14 Reuter states that the Committee of j. the House of Representatives at Wash. ington has agreed to the appropriation of two million dollars from the Government instead of the packers for bearing the oost of inspection. AU meat products must bear Government labels as m a guarantee that they are wholesome, a " libel stating the date of manufacture not being required, and the use of pftjj * servatires being left to the discretion of the Secretary for Agriculture. Australian meat importers, under the presidency of Mr Sharp, trnani- * mously adopted Mr Guthrie's resolution to appoint a Committee of Australian colonists to assist in preparing measures to devolop the meat trade of the colonies. The Agents-General have been invited to associate themselves with the movement.
