BRITISH COMMISSIONED MURDERED. HEAVY FIGHTING. Received 14, 11.45 p.m. London, June 14. The " Morning Post " Lagos correspondent states that Oswald Crewe Read, Assistant Commissioner, was murdered in the Asaba Hinterland. Captain Eadkin and two hundred of the Southern Nigerian Regiment hastened thither and arrived at Ogbo by forced marches. After heavy fighting the enemy retreated. The troops behaved with great gallantry. Further fighting is imminent.
