deceived 8, 10.53 p.m. London, June S. A smell of fire was noticed on the Gothic on Sinday. day it was discovered that number four hold was seriously on fire. A quantity of burning cargo was jettisoned, steam injected into the hold, and apparently the fire was extinguished. On Wednesday thr amell of fire was renewed. By Thursday morning the fire had made considerable headway and the passengers were advised to disembark at Plymonth. When the hatches were lifted, dense smoke was emitted. Two Government tugs gave assistance, but failing to extinguish the fire the Gothic was towed to Cattewatter, when the seacocks were opened and she was beached. Last night the fire had eiteryjed to the sabon and a large hole vii bnrnt in the floor. Sho has a very lie&vy list and it was feared she might topple oyer as the tide ebbed.
