FITZROY FIRE BRIGADE BALL.
The most successful ball of the present season was held in the Theatre Royal on Monday evening, under the auspices of the Fitzroy Fire Brigade. With a secretary of considerable experience, a hard working ladies' committee, the hearty co-operation of Fitzroy residents, a fair amount of support from the dancing community in New Plymouth, and of many townspeople who evinced a lively and practical interest in this promising suburban brigade, only the weather had to be reckoned with. This was not too unfavorable,: and the bill room was just nicely filled for dauemg. No pains had been spared in the arrangements. The floor was in perfect.order— too greasy for inexperienced dancers, and th(£ supper was a triumph of the culinary and decorative art. lai the centre of a long table was Sl beautifully decked sp'crgne, from the apex of which were led streamers of [the Brigade's colors to the table corners, and the letters " F.F.8." were emblazoned on the table-cloth. The music supplied by Turner's orchestra of six players was capital. The M.'sC. jwere Messrs T. Hook, E. Humphries, and W, Way, and they were courteous land energetic in the execution of their important duties. Amongst those present was Captain F. Bellringcr, of the New Plymouth Fire Brigade. The ladies' committee comprised Mcsdames F. C. Griffiths (President), Dockrill, Eva, G. Francis, Simpson, Sturmey, W. Griffiths, K. Bellrinßer, W. Hardwick, and Miss Martin. The greatest credit is due to them and to the secretary, Mr A. Wellcr, who is also secretary to the Brigade. A substantial credit balance will be the net result.
