A TROOPERS' MEMORIAL.

A handsome memorial to the troopers ' who lost their lives through the South African war was uuyeiled in the Queen's Garden's to-day, by the Hon. Colonel Pitt. He spoke on patriotism, and referred to tho large number who went to fight from New Zealand, and also spoke of future defence, and said that in addition to the navy, it was necessary that those physically fit should be trained to defend our shores. Six hundred volunteers paraded, the day being observed as a general holi> day.
