"THE WHITE GARLAND."

This pretty cantata was given in Whitley Hall last evening by the Whitley Sunday School scholars, and was an unqualified success. There was a crowded house, and all the performers acquitted themselves excellently, whilst the stage arrangements and the pretty white frocks made a charming picture. The story is meant to show in song and recitation the benefits accruing to children—and others—who are punctual, persevering and generous, and the unhappy lot of the tardy, quarrelsome, and selfish scholars, who were relinked whilst the fiMt three wero crowned and praised by the Queen, Miss Clarice Buckman, who imparted a charming dignity to her role. The other characters were: Punctuality, Miss Avril Tooke; tardy scholar, Master Reg. Gaukrodger; perseverence, Miss Ivy Gilbert; quarrelsome scholar, Bertie Taylor ; solfish scholar, Cecil Black. Misses Hawson, Black and Cannell sang a trio vcryi effectively. Mr Walton sang " The Trumpeter,' (encore number, "The Old soldier"); Mr Mallett, "Trombone" (encore, "The Yeoman's Wedding"); Miss Chong,"A Summer Shower," the singer bowing her acknowledgements; Miss Gideon " Idle Worits," and Miss Cornwall, "The Little Hero." The performance was in every way an enjoyable and successful one, and the promoters and teachers deserve to be warmly complimented.
