TE RANGI PAI.
Since the return to New Zealand few week ago of the talented contralto, Te Eangi Pai, thousands of people havo had the pleasure of hearing her beautiful voice, and the enthusiasm evinced on all occasions is a strong endorsement qf the many criticisms she has received in praise of the charming and capable manner in which she handles her work. Referring to the famous artist's recital in Auckland last Friday evening, the ''Herald" critic says; 11 The registers are admirably blended, her intonation is flawless, whilo her pronunciation and enunciation would satisfy even the hypercritical. Further than this, Te Bangi Pai is the true artist, in that she ,knows how to estimate the possibilities of a song in its rendition, and last night her singing undoubtedly played upon the finer susceptibilities of her listeners, who were frequently roused to a pitch of enthusiasm in which there was no trace of the artificial. The story which the artist had to tell was admirably told in every instance, and more than once her hearers accompanied her on a journey of the emotions, which was all too transient." The box plan is now open at the Dresden.
