Mr Seddon yesterday had an interview with the Japanese Consul relative to the establishment of a direct service with the East.

Tho Consul was much pleased with the Government's intended action.

A . fortnightly servico is proposed between New Zealand, Singapore, Hongkong, Java, and Japan. The idea has been favourably received in commercial circles here.
