Thfl House of Lords arrived at a decision on the Alters, and. Labour Bills While the House of Commons was voting moiiey which the House of Lords expends.- Indignant Labourites, by way of protest, hare moved a reduction of the v6te, and arepreposing to cancel the cost that had opt been dealt with under the rote. So many of the new members supported the amendment that a defeat of the Government, might conceivably have been engineered.
. Mr Lows Harconrt (First Commissioner of Works) eventually secured a withdrawal of the amendment.
Mr Keir Hardie/ on the motion of fmendment, blamed the Government fot not accepting .Lord Lansdowne's offer of an Aliens Bill. He asked how long the "Government would coutenance the existence of the Hdnsc of Lords. The incident raised the whole
ijnestion' of whether' the democracy w*s a reality or a iham. MrG. Weiteley, in the absence of
Jjus Liberal ..leaders, referred to the rejection of the Bill as a regret table incident, but it was an unofficial mem-
