THE LORDS AND THE LABOSITES. Received 18.11.10 p.m. London, May 18. In the House of Lords, ninety-six to twenty-four rejected the second reading of the labor party's Bill, preventing the importation of aliens under contract during a labor dispute. The Bill passed through the House of Commons unopposed. Lord Bidley declared that .the Bill benefited the trade unions the very moment the Government was conferring unlimited powers under tUe Trade Disputes Bill, thus placing them above the law of the land.
VIEWS OF MEMBERS. Received 19,12.10 a.m. Lokdo.v, May 18. .In the House of Lords Earl Beauclump said'thc Government proposed to treat the Bill exactly as in the House of Commons. It did not propose to take one side or the other, leaving the decision lo the House. The Marquis of Londonderry declared that he was not surprised at the attitude of " leave it to you " of the Government.
He Marquis of Sipon declared that the Bill was consistent with an addition to the Aliens Act. Lord Lanadowae said that the promoters were proposing to farther load the dice, bat if the Government assumed the responsibility of the Bill, and would see it amended and made workable in committee, he would support its second » -reading. The Bishop of Salisbury declared that the Government's action was a parody on legislation.
