Mr J. W. Brindley, manager of (lie State Fire Insurance Department, was on an official visit to Now Plymouth yesterday.
Mr Marchant, Under-Secretary for Lands, and Surveyor General, who is retiring from the Public Service on pension, was yesterday presented by the acting-Premier at a.gathering at Bellamy's, with a cheque for a substantial amount from the officers in the Lands Department all over the Colony. Speeches eulogising Mr Marchant's services to the Colony since 1865 were made by the Hon. Mr Hall-Jones and the Hon. T. Y. Duncan.
At a meeting of the Canterbury Education Board last night, Mr Jas. C. Dromgool, B.Se., at present in the Stratford District High School, was appointed instructor in Agriculture At Wellington last night Sir Robert Stout was elected to represent the Victoria College on the University Senule, and Di Fiudlay was elected Chiirman of the Victoria College Council
