CHARGE OF ARSON.

James Crowther, laborer, was charged with arson to-day in connection with a fire in West street, and William Walker, house painter, was charged with procuring Crowther to commit the crime. The chief evidence against Crowther was hiß own. confession, in whioh he alleged that Walker showed him how the house could be fired, and said benefit would result if it were destroyed. Crowther admits firing the house and was to receive £2O if it were consumed. The brigade extinguished the flames. Walker had promised to look after Crowther's family if anything happened to him. The case is proceeding. Auckland, May 15. Whon the Coutt resumed after the luncheon adjurnment, the charge against Wm. Walker of procuring James Crowther to commit arson was proceeded with. He pleaded not guilty, and Crowther, who pleaded guilty to committing the arson, gave evidenco against Walker, on the "lines of his (Crowther's) confession to the police.
