CORRESPONDENCE.

A SUGGESHOX. ] TO THE EDITOB. 818, —Kindly allow mc to make through the columns of your paper the i following suggestion. We have struck oiL Let the Taranaki people joia together and have one hy gala day to celebrate one of the greatest events that his ever taken place in the history of New Zealaud. The Governor has promised to pay us an official visit. J •msuro the Premier has our welfare at heart. Then why uot form a committee and inrite the Colony's representatives. Arrange with the steam shipping and railway companies for an extraordinary cheap excursion rate, and have a day's rejoicing at the Port of Muturoa. The nature of the country around the oil well will enable 50,000 people to view the oil spouting many feet in the air, which alone would repay those people who might come a long distance. Outside bands could be asked to join with our Jocal ones in catering for the visitors' amusement. The harbor could be inspected, also the proposed future site of the iron and steel works. Amusements and sports of all kinds could be carried out on the beach, and those visitors who would b.'come enamoured with the beauty of Hew Plymouth could interview Callaghan's or other local laud Agents and become permanent settlers . which would be to the benefit •of business man here.—l am, etc., Joseph Kicketts.*
