The workers' representative at the Arbitration Court, commenting on the fact that girls wo'king in laundries received only eight and ten shillings .weekly,, said this was insufficient to tiep them in decent food and clothes. This condition of things was forcing young women into a state of immorality, and unless they got sufficient to keep bjdy and soul together under healthy conditions, the old conditions of slavery .would be far preferable to the present system.
