RECREATION GROUNDS BOARD.
The annual meeting of the Board of Trustees of the New Plymouth Botani, cal Gardens was held on Wednesday evening. Present: Messrs. S. PcrcyjSmith, C. W. Govett. W. L. Newman, R. C. Hugh s, Harris Ford, anc! D. Hutchen. In the absence of the Chairman, Mr S. Percy-Smith was voted to the chair.
The statement of receipts and expenditure for the year ended 31st March, 1906, was read. The principal moneys received during the year were : Annual subscriptions, £27 3s (id; special donations, £l4 4s; denation box in grounds, £6 18s ; percentage of gate takings, £37 13s lid; Borough Council subsidy, £100; legacy from Mrs Small, £25; Acclimatisation Society, £lO ss. Expenditure included: Wages, £165 17s 6d; building tea and ladies' rooms, £6B 16s lid; fireworks, £BO 3s lJd. The total expenditure was £296 8s Id, and the overdraft stands on March 31st £6l 10s 9d,
' The balance-sheet was adopted. The mee'ing pissed a resolution, "That this Board expresses its warmest thanks to Mr B. H, Tribe for his services as Secretary to the Board." After a little discussion, it was decided, " That it is desirable to perpctuate th» tnrjiory of deceased benc-!facl->rs, by some permanent memorial in the nature of plain marble tablets, effective simplicity to be aimed at; and that a committee, consisting of .Messrs. S. Percy-Smith, W. L. Newman, and C. W Govett, invite designs."
The Tukapa Football Club was granted the use of the sports ground for matches, upon the usual terms, until such time as the alterations are commenced.
Tllc Secretary was instructed to write [to the Recreation Sports Committee, drawing attention to the Board's former resolution re submitting plans of the proposed alterations to the ■ sports ground before any work is commenced.
A motion was unanimously carried, "that the Board desires to place on record its grateful appreciation of the deep interest always evinced by the late Kobert Govett in the Recreation Grounds, and especially to acknowledge the liberality which prompted iiim to direct thj donation of £IOO. The amounts of subscriptions rceciral through the various collecting boxes will be acknowledged monthly through the Press. Mr S. Percy-Smith was appointed overseer of the grounds for the coming year.
The Secretary reported a bank overdraft of £'6l Ids 'Jd.
