GALE IN DUNEDIN.
FSB ffiSSS ASSOCIATION. Dpnbdin, April 80. A good deal of damage of a inipor nature was done about the city and suburbs by tierce squills of wind on Sunday morning. The wind piped up strong just before 1 a.m. from N to N.E., some of the gusts being the severest experienced here. Sunday was fine and calm, but early this morning the gale set _in again. Some ohimneys were damaged, trees broken and uprooted, and small crafts in the harbour broke from their moorings. One gust caught a covered-in express waggon, and completely capsized it. The movements of shipping were completely disarranged. The most serious individual loss is probably that of Mr Knewstubb, of Port Chalmers. He had drawn up on the slip a large boat to put a double-cylinder oil engine in her. The wind blew the boat off the slips, and when picked up noar the Heads, the engine, which was ou board, had disappeared.
