THE TOTALISATOR.
CONDEMNED BY ME. KETTLE, S.M. FES FfiESS ASSOCIATION. Auckland, April 30. Some pointed, remarks on tke iotalisator were made at tho Police Court by Mr C. C. Kettle, S.M. A youtli lud been romandel, on a charge of stoaling money from liis omployer, in order to receive the Probation OfEcaor's roport. The report was not favorable, and stated anion# other things that the youth frequented race-courses. Mr Kettle, who has frequently spoken against the attendance of boys and youths at racc-courses, stated that in his opinion the totalisator should never have been legalised by the State. The machine was a great temptation to men and youths, and since it had been introduced, it had demoralised the youth of the colony. He also said deliberately that the remarks uttered by some members of the House when the totalisator was legalised, had been borne out. The detrimental effects of tho machine wero being fully realised in this Colony.
