TARANAKI LAND BOARD.

The Land Board met on Tuesday. Present: The Commissioner of Crown Lands, and Messrs lleslop, McCluggage, Counett, and linttenbury. Lands applied for since last meeting were scheduled: —Section a, block 13, Upper Waitara, (347 acres, Samuei

Lowe and A. L, Bishell; section 4, block 5, Pouatu, 191 acres, F. It. Wilton i section <l, block 5, Malioe, I>oo acres, L. 11. James awl I'.. T. James; sections 2, |3, 4, block 2, Taitrakawa, sections 1, '2, 3, 4, 5, block 14, Malioe, 1597 acres, D. S. and D. Maxwell; section 5, block 9, Kaipara, 335 acres, A. Hickford; a total of 2670 acres.

TRANSFERS. Transfers were approved'- F. Groshinski to L. H. James, section 5, block 5, Malioe; It. H. Campbell to S. Turkington, section 2, block 6, Omona; Kelly and Miller (by l'ublic Trusteo) to P. A. Kelly and W. J. Shaw, section 4, bloek 14, Omona; C. Hodgo to W. B. West, section 5, block 15, Pouatu (subject to improvements being completed) j E. 0. and E. G, Meredith to E. C. and E. 0. Meredith, section 5, block 7, Cape; J, and S. Henry to P. Stoffel, section 17, block 12, Ngaire; M. A. Curie to H. Blair, section 3, block 2, Malioe; J, Pairman to Alan McCutchan, section 11, block 9, Pouatu ; E. Allentan to M. F. llyan, section 20, block 16, Egmont, L. M. Dean was granted permission to sub-let small grazing run 4, Opaku, to W. E. Tayler. J. Godkin was granted permission to convert section 9, bloek 8, Ngaire, and John Burntain was granted six months leave of absence.

Tho Chief Lands Hanger reported on the inspection of 30 holdings, comprising an area of 16,426 acres 13 perches. Improvements required were valued at £3123, actually effected £9041. Twenty selectors were resident, and four had not complied in this respect. Two had not effected sufficient improvements. The assistant ranger reported on 18 holdings, comprising 9786 acres 1 rood 15 perches. Improvements required, £2020; actually effected, £2357. Eight selectors were resident, and one in default for non-compliance; eight had not effected sufficient improvements. The usual notice will be sent to defaulters.

The ranger will report on Mr Greenwood's request to have valuation of improvements on section 10 and 17, block 4, Kgatimaru, reduced to £OOO. •J. Glcddow will be informed, in answer to his letter, in at it is not intended to offer section Hi, block 2, Aria, for lease. A. C. Bell asked if the tenure of seetioi 5, block 12, Omona, which he purchased for cash so.nc years ago, could be changed. The Board decided to inform the applicant that it cannot assist, as there is no provision tp the Act. The Xew Plymouth Harbor Board applied for redress on account of overdue rates on section 23, block 4, Huiroa, occupied by A. A. Aiken, and section 17, block 15, Pouatu, occupied by John Burgess.— Hesolved that the Harbor Board be advised that it must exhaust all legal remedies before applying to the Laud Board for redress.

•I. Farrell, jun., applied for a lease of the Crown sections in Huiroa township.—Declined. Surrenders were accepted from two improved farm settlers ■. A. McKinlcy, jun., section 12, block 2, Aria, and J. M. Bait, section 18, block 1, Aria The following improved farm settlers applied to exchange their holdings : J. W. Murphy, surrender 21, block 14, Ohura, in exchange for section 27, same block ; and H. Gcange, surrender section 12, block 18, Ohura, in exchange for section 0, same block. —Approved.

A schedule of selectors who had not complied with tho condition of the Land Act was dcfcrrod to next meet-

A schedule of selectors under the Improved Farm Settlement condition, who had failed to comply with the regulations, was road, and it was resolved that the holdings of Leuman, Moridith, Jawis, Kite, Ellison and Govett be forf sited, the remainder to be given three months' notice to complete and except J. J. Pittams, who will havo six months.

A letter was read from Mr W. Symes, M.H.1i.., asking tho Board to reconsider tho question of re-offering section 75, block (!, Ngaire, by public auction.—Consideration deferred, pending inspection by the Board.

The Commissioner was authorised to take legal action in regard to tenants who were in arrear with rents to 31st December last.

J. B. Smith applied for remissiQn of rent on section 0, block 14,-AVaro. —Four years' remission granted. L. J. Bean waited on the Board, and asked if he could transfer his section 93, block 8, Waimato (Tokaora settlement), although he had not held it for five years.—To be considered when formal apnlieation is made.
