VACCINATION.

CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTORS, MAGISTRATE REFUSES TO MAKE ORDERS. PEE PBEBS ASSOCIATION. Auckland, April 11. At the Police Court, the Registrar of Births summoned a number of parents to show cause their children should not be vaccinated, Mr George George, Director of Technical Education, one of tho defendants, said he conscientiously bolieved vaccination would injure his child's health, and felt so strongly on tho subject that he would suffer the extreme penalty of the law rather than allow his children to be vaccinated. Mr Kettle said he would decline to make an order. Mr Mays, solicitor, asked if the Magistrate proposed to extend the timo when a conscientious objection shall apply, from four months to fourteen years. The Magistrate said whatever was the effect of his decision, he would not take the responsibility of ordeiing this child to be vaccinated. When a parent swore he honestly bolieved vaccination would be injurious to his child's health, he would not order him to consent. He would, it requested, state a case for tho Supreme Court. Mr Mays, for tho Health Department, said the Department would not consent to extend the period of exemption. Eight cases were similarly dealt with, the Magistrate refusing to make orders.
