FIRES.
RESIDENCE DESTROYED AT FITZROY. About ten o'clock on Wednesday night, a large two storey house near Fit/.roy, was discovered to be on fire. Miss Hansen was the only occupant of the -house at the time of the outbreak, which, when first seen by her, had a firm hold upstairs. The Fitzroy Fire Brigade was promptly on the scene, and a number of firemen from town also went out, but from the outset the building was doomed. Practically nothing was saved.the residence, which was a large one, being completely lestroved. It was owned by Mr E. Griffiths (of Bewley and Griffiths), and occupied by Mr C. and the Misses Hansen. The insurances were not available.
FIRE AT WESTOWN. Goodacrc's stables at Westown caught tire between 0 aud 10 o'clock list night, but willing hands succeeded in overcoming llu- blaze before much j damage was done. No particulars arc [ available.
