LEAKAGE IN THE WATERWORKS TUNNEL.

BIG ESCAPE OF WATER. In the course of discussion at the Borough Council meeting last night, reference was made to a serious defect ;vt the waterworks tunnel. The Mayor said that the ratepayers might as well know all about it. Ho said that last Thtrsday Mr Mestayer, Consulting Engineer, traversed Ihe tunnel, and found that the concrete w s very rough, allowing the leakage of enough water to till an H-inch pipe. It was impossibe to locale the leak, but the Mayor did not think a professional man would be required to cement the hole when found. And no engineer would be required, even if the intake were knocked clean away by flood.
