AUSTRALIAN PREMIERS' CONFERENCE.
COMMONWEALTH TAKES OVER NORFOLK ISLAND. IMMIGRATION ENCOURAGEMENT. Received 10, 1.15 a.m. Sydney, April 9. Mr Carruthers conferred witli Mr Dentin with reference to the Commonwealth taking over Norfolk Island. Tkey arrived at an arrangement to take the Island over, which the Prenliers' Conference subsequently confirmed. It will be taken over on the same footing as New Guinea, and will not be subject to the Commonwealth tariff. The Conference further discussed with Mr Deabin the question of immigration, and agreed that the Commonwealth take over the advertising 'and shipping arrangements.
