TARANAKL RUGBY UNION,

At tke annual meeting of the Taranaki Rugby Union in Stratford on Friday niglit, fifteen delegates wore present, representing ten clubs. Mr T. Buchanan, chairman of the Management Committee, presided. The balance-sheet., showing n credit of €7O 7s 9d, was adopted. Officers were elected: President, Mr A. Bayley ; Management Committee— Southern division: Messrs Guy, Shields, and Wilson; northernMessrs Humphries,Buchanan, Maloue; honorary treasurer, Mr T. Buchanan; vice-president of the N.Z, Union, Mr A. Bayly; delegates to N.Z. Union, Messrs A. Holmes and Cr. Frasche; auditors, Messrs Webster and G. Glenn; secretaay, Mr P, Skoglundl (re-elected).

Mr Wilson (Hawera) moved, That rule 7 be rescinded, and the followiug inserted : That three selectors be appointed, to be elected annually at the general meeting. In the discussion followiug, Mr Humphries questioned whether there was another man equal to Mr G. Syme, who had been sole selector for several years. Messrs Bellringer (Star), and Stohr (Tukapi) favoured the sole selector system, if a good man could be secured. Mr Hum-

phries settled that difficulty by announcing that the p.csidont, Mr A. i Bayly, would take the position. The - motion was withdrawn, and Mr Bayly 1 appointed, with Messrs A. Hunter and 1 W. Glenn in the south, and Messrs A. f Humphries and D. J. Malone in the north, to select pick trial teams, r The subjoct of a letter from the - Clifton Club, that no local referee bo e appointed for any match, was discussed, y and no action taken.

A letter fro n the South. Turanaki Sefcrees' Association, suggesting that all grounds be roped oft", and goal pjsts made higher, was reterred to the management committee. The matter of pi'nting an annual was left to the ..ejt committee. Mr E. O'Meara (Opunake) asked why the appeal lodged against the Havvera Club was not forwarded to the New Zealand Union. The secretary said he had returned tin- proteet to Opunake as incorrect, and that club had sent it on to' the New Zealand Union, who, ho believed, had no jurisdiction in the matter. It was decided that Cbibs forwarding lists of members rcjst state Christian names. An Ellham motion, that the disqualification of H. De Lauuay, of Eltham, reported by a referee for inciting, was carried by 18 votes to 17. A deputation from the Kaponga Football Club asked for their old district, stating that they qpuld put two teams in the field. A Waimatc delegate protested that this would practically kill the Waimato | Club, and the Okaiawa representative! aired similar views.

In the discussion, it was pointed out that the Club had once had a district, but had forfeited.

Mr Alex. Hill moved, that the matter be left to the Management Committee, who are to call a general meeting if they are satisfied that neither Okaiawa uorWaimate will be materially affected. —Seconded by Mr Bcllringer and carried.

THE ASSOCIATION GAME. The annual meeting of the Taranaki Union (Association game), will be held in Mr S. Clark's rooms on Thursdav night.

It has been practically decided to atliliatc the New Plymouth district with the New Zealand Union, and application has been made lo the latter body for rules, &c.

A practice match will be played 011 the Tukapa ground on Thursday afternoon. All players and intending members are urgently requested to attend.

Travelling representative teams from Otago and Wellington are expected to visil ?\ew Plymouth and play matches this season. A trip will be made lo Auckland, and there is a likelihood of tho visit being returned before the close of the season. The New South Wales touring team may also include Taranaki in its list of fixtures.

The local Union is about £5 in debt over last year's operations, the loss having been sustained by unfortunate circumstances in connection with the Auckland trip.

A movement is afoot to start an association club in Hawera, where there arc several old experts in the art of "soccer." It is possible that the New Plymouth Club will send a team to Hawera on Easter Monday to meet a local team, in order to help the movement along. "Soccer" has caught on in northern Taranaki, where there are five clubs—two at Now Plymouth, and one oach at Waitara, Urcnui, and Inglcwood, and there is ample material in the south to form a club.

Mr L. Frost, who has boen a most enthusiastic worker in New Plymouth Association circles, is anxious to be relieved of the secretarial duties, as he finds it inconvenient to attend to the work whilst living some miles out of town.

The annual meeting of the New Plymouth Central School Club was held on Friday, Mr Dompsey, headmaster, presiding. It was decided to prepare the ground, with a view of commencing practice right away. E. Elliott was elected captain, and Alf. Richards vice-captain, while the committee comprises these oflieors aid Legge, Foote, Clow, and Beale.
