The New Plymouth Club's annual Championship Singles wero commenced on Thursday, llosulls: LADIES. Miss McDiarmid boat Miss Keid 15-' l, t-0, 0-3 after a hotly contested game. Miss M. Govett wou from Miss Thomson by default, Miss Thomson, unfortunately, owing to a prior arrangement being unable to play. Miss Brewster beat Mrs Johns 6-1, 6-3. GENTS. Smith beat Balharry 6-3, (1-3. Nicholson beat Medley 6--1, 6-0. Play was stopped by rain early in the afternoon, but will be continued! today, when Taylor plays Dickson, Fookes plays J. W. Wilson. Miss Govett plays Miss I. Taylor, Miss McDiarmid plays. Miss Simpson, Miss Brewster plays Miss M. Govett The finals are to be played on Saturday afternoon.
