WHITELEY CHURCH.

QUARTERLY MEETING. The quarterly meeting of officials of New Plymouth circuit was held on Tuesday evening, Rev. Buttle in the the chair. Sixteen were present. Mr H. Lewis was welcomed to the meetiug. Membership returns showed an increase on last quarter. Rev. Foston read the minutes of the Coast quarterly meeting, and those present expressed great satisfaction at the work being dono on the coast, there boing signs of progress everywhere. The balance-sheets of the Coast and Xew Plymouth districts wore read and adopted. Tho Coast had wiped out its debit balance, and showed, a substantial credit, while the total debitbalnncefor the circuit was only £lO, which was a matter of groat satisfaction to the meeting.

Rev, Williams reported steady progress ill South, Road and elsewhere, including improvements to the South Road Church. The rc|>ort of Sunday Schools was also encouraging. The meeting was advised of tho probable visit of. Kcv. Doley, as foreign mission deputation ia June 20th, and Kev. ■Bhuiiiros, as Bible class organising secretary, for a fendays, beginning June 24th. Mr S. B. White and Mrs Hawsou were reappointed representatives to Bible Societies,

The following motion was carried unanimously:—"That this meeting would direct tho attention of the Licensing Committee to the remarks of the Stipendiary Magistrate on the cases recently before him, arising from the late race meeting, and desires that the excessive drinking on that occasion be noted particularly." As this was the last mooting at which the Rov. Buttle would preside, a motion was carried expressing high appreciation of Mr Buttle, and wishing him " God Speed" in his new sphere. Arrangements were initiated for reception of the Rev. Brooks on April 20th.

It was resolved, '• That this meeting approvos the scheme adopted by the last quarterly meeting in reference to parsonage oxtension." '
